The closest association to Hi-NRG is the Italo disco.

Recent artists in the EDM industry, like Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Tiësto, and Daft Punk are mostly into house music and electro-funk. EDM was promoted through festivals devoted to the popularization of this young genre. It is not more than 30 years old. Festivals like Lollapalooza and Coachella are celebrated annually, and include sub-genres of EDM like house, techno, trance, electro-funk, and the like.
