Rock music emerged in the 1950s in the Southern United States and quickly gained popularity in the rest of the world. It was a compilation of gospel music, blues and country music. The term rock and roll (also rock n roll or rock & roll) was coined by a disc jockey from Ohio called Alan Freed. The music he broadcast was usually described as rock n roll. After the 1950s, many rock bands bloomed all over the country.
