In the 1970s, punk music gained immense popularity in the USA, the UK, and Australia. The next wave of punk music took the world by surprise in the 1990s, and became extremely popular. In actuality, punk has given birth to many different genres and sub-genres of music. In the mid 1980s, when emo music or ’emocore’/’emotional hardcore’ music came into existence, it combined with the reemerging punk music in 1990s to give birth to the screamo genre.
